Betty Jean Shehane

November 20, 1943 — July 12, 2025

Betty Jean Markell (Shehane), born November 20, 1943 in Saline, Michigan to J. Ira Markell and Anna Mae Sopp Markell. Her journey ended here on earth, for her to continue her glorious walk with Jesus in Heaven, at Monroe Health and Rehab in Madisonville, TN on July 12th, 2025 at 6:32AM. She attended West Side Baptist Church when her health permitted.

Betty Jean devoted most of her life working in facilities helping others. She worked at Woods Memorial Hospital and Hiwassee College before moving to North Carolina where she worked at an assisted living/nursing home until retirement and coming back to Tennessee.

Left to cherish her memory is a special sister and brother-in-law Irene and Cliff Weiss of Arkansas. Friends Betty Jean Wilholt, her Sequoyah Village Family, Polly Miller and Jack and Melissa Best.

A special thank you from the friends and family to the nurses, cna’s and dietary dept at Monroe Health and Rehab Center “for the care and love you gave to Betty Jean and us.” Thank you, Pastor Dwight Torbett, for prayers and the hospital visits. To John and Glenda Coleman and Terry and Missy Price thank you for the prayers and nursing home visits.

No formal services at this time will be held. A gathering of friends will be planned for her committal at Haven Hills Memorial Gardens at a later date.
